Types of Scholarships

The University of Mississippi has many scholarships that have been made available through the generous donations of alumni and friends of the university. The scholarships listed below are available for incoming freshmen and community college transfer students that plan to attend The University of Mississippi beginning Fall 2014.

Incoming freshmen who wish to be considered for scholarships must file a University of Mississippi Admission Application, and submit an online Special Programs & Scholarships Application. This application should be completed by March 1.

Transfer students should submit a University of Mississippi Admission application, and transcript that includes three semesters of grades. This should be done by the priority deadline of February 1 but no later than than March 1 prior to enrollment. All students must be admitted to The University of Mississippi to be considered for scholarships. Some departmental and professional school awards are not included in this listing. Scholarship eligibility, criteria, and amounts may change at any time without prior notice.

University Foundation Scholarships

Penelope W. and E. Roe Stamps IV Leadership Scholarship

  • Award Amount: Up to Cost of Attendance after other awards. The package includes a $12,000 stipend for educational activities outside the classroom, including study abroad, research, and other enrichment pursuits.

  • Award Amount: $40,000 ($10,000 per year)

Luckyday Scholarship

  • Award Amount: $8,000-$20,000 ($2,000-$5,000 per year)
  • Eligibility: Entering freshman from Mississippi with 20 ACT or higher (940 SAT), 3.2 or higher GPA and remaining financial need after considering other scholarships or grants. Selection is competitive and considers grades, test scores, financial need, leadership, activities, and the Luckyday essay. 75 new freshmen are chosen each year.

Lott Leadership Scholarship

  • Award Amount: Amount varies.

Center for Mathematics and Science Education

Robert Noyce Teachers for a New Tomorrow Forgivable Loan Program

  • Award Amount:  Up to $20,000 (not to exceed cost of attendance)
  • Eligibility:
    • UM Double Major in STEM and STEM Education - UM junior/senior undergraduate double majoring in a STEM field and Secondary Math Education or Secondary Science Education.
    • UM STEM Major - UM junior/senior undergraduate majoring in a STEM field (only) with the desire to obtain a master’s degree that will lead to teacher certification (i.e. MACI program).
    • Recruited STEM Graduates - STEM graduates recruited from other four-year institutions who wish to obtain teacher certification in science or mathematics may enroll in the MACI program at UM.
    • STEM Professionals - Professional holding a degree in a STEM field who are currently or have been employed in a STEM field and now seek to become a secondary education teacher.  They can apply for the Noyce and enroll in the MACI program.
  • Loan Cancellation Provisions: To cancel each year’s Noyce funding award, students must complete two years of service as a full-time science or mathematics teacher in a high need local educational agency as defined in section 201 of the Higher Education Act of 1965 (20 U.S.C. 1201) that serves an elementary or secondary school located in an area in which there is a high percentage of individuals from families with incomes below the poverty line; a high percentage of secondary school teachers not teaching in the content area in which the teachers were trained to teach; or a high teacher turnover rate.

Military Science

Army ROTC Scholarship

  • Award Amount: $12,600-$113,400 ($3,150- $28,350 per year)
  • Eligibility: Scholarships are awarded to young men and women from freshmen to graduate level at the University of Mississippi. Student must have a strong academic background and demonstrate a commitment to leadership and achieving excellence.

Community College Scholarships

To be eligible for any scholarships listed below, students must be transferring to Ole Miss directly from community college. A minimum of 48 community college hours must be accepted for transfer. The calculation of this transfer GPA will include the grades from all prior colleges attended.

Lyceum Scholar Awards

  • Award Amount: Full resident tuition for two year ($6,996 for the 2014-15 year)
  • Eligibility: Community College Transfer students with at least a 3.0 transfer GPA on at least 48 transferable community college credit hours and an exemplary record of leadership and service.

Community College Leadership Scholarships

  • Award Amount: $5,000 ($2,500 per year for two years)
  • Eligibility: Community College Transfer students with at least a 3.0 transfer GPA on at least 48 transferable community college credit hours and an exemplary record of leadership and service.

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship

  • Award Amount: $8,000 ($4,000 per year for two years)
  • Eligibility: Transfer students with a 3.5 GPA on at least 48 transferable community college credit hours and membership in Phi Theta Kappa. Members of the All Mississippi Team will receive an additional one-time only $1,000 scholarship and an additional $1,000 one-time only scholarship will be awarded to those students who become members of the All American Team.

Luckyday University Scholarship

  • Award Amount: $9,200 (upto $4,600 per year)
  • Eligibility: These scholarships are awarded to a select group of 25 community college transfer students with a 2.5 overall GPA on at least 48 transferable community college credit hours. Student’s receiving this award must be resident of Mississippi and must be transferring from Mississippi community college. In addition, students selected must have remaining financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal student Aid (FAFSA) after other scholarships and grants have been awarded.

  • Award Amount: $3,000 ($1,500 per year for two years)
  • Eligibility: These scholarships are awarded to community college transfer students with a 3.0 overall transfer GPA or higher and 48 transferable community college credit hours. Students must be enrolled full-time to receive this award.

Osher Reentry Scholarship

  • Award Amount: Up to $2,500 per year ($1,250/semester)
  • Eligibility: Students who are pursuing their first baccalaureate degree; have experienced a cumulative gap in their education of five or more years since High School graduation or attainment of GED; who are enrolled at least half-time, are US Citizens between 25 and 50 years old; and have demonstrated financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

  • Deadline: July 1st to complete the OSHER REENTRY Scholarship Application and students must have a completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the Office of Financial Aid. Priority date is June 1st.

Academic Excellence Technology Scholarship

  • Award Amount: $1,000 one-year only award
  • Eligibility: Entering freshmen, minimum 3.0 high-school GPA. a minimum 33 ACT* (1440 SAT**). National Merit/Achievement Semifinalists/Finalists are eligible for the Academic Excellence Scholarship National Merit/Achievement Semifinalist/Finalist Award and will not be eligible to receive this award.

Academic Excellence Scholarship National Merit/Achievement Semifinalist/Finalist Award

  • Award Amount: Currently valued at $45,384 ($11,346 per year–includes a full-tuition scholarship, currently valued at $6,996 per year and the standard cost of double-occupancy room in a campus residence hall currently valued at $4,350 per year). Non-Resident students will also receive a full non-resident scholarship currently valued at $12,084 per year. Finalist may receive additional awards. This scholarship is awarded in lieu of the Academic Excellence Scholarship..

National Merit/Achievement Finalist Award

  • Award Amount: $4,000 ($1,000 per year)
  • Eligibility: Entering freshman with finalist status and selection of Ole Miss as first choice and who are not receiving a National Merit Corporate award

National Hispanic Recognition Award

  • Award Amount: $8,000 ($2,000 / year)
  • Eligibility: Entering freshmen who are named to the College Board’s National Hispanic Recognition Program after taking the PSAT/NMSQT. This award can be stacked with Academic Excellence unless a student is designated a National Merit Semi-Finalist or Finalist, in which case the upgraded Finalist/Semi-finalist packages apply instead.

Barnard Scholarship

  • Award Amount: $12,000 ($3,000 / year)
  • Eligibility: Entering freshmen who have achieved National Merit/Achievement Finalist status and have a 3.0 or higher high school GPA.

  • Award Amount: $4,000-$10,000  ($1,000-$2,500 year)
  • Eligibility: Entering freshmen who are nonresidents and have at least a 24 ACT (1090 SAT) and at least a 3.5 high school GPA. Students named National Merit Semifinalists/Finalists are not eligible to receive this award.

Bledsoe Scholarship

  • Award Amount: $6,000 – $10,000 ($1,500 -$2,500 per year)
  • Eligibility: Entering freshmen who are Mississippi residents who have at least a 24 ACT (1090 SAT) and at least a 3.5 high school GPA. Students named National Merit Semifinalists/Finalists are not eligible to receive this award.

High School Valedictorian/Salutatorian Scholarship

  • Award Amount: $6,000 ($1,500 / year)
  • Eligibility: Entering freshmen who are named Valedictorian or Salutatorian of their high school (student ranking of 1st or 2nd in the graduating class).
  • How to Apply: Notify the Office of Financial Aid; a letter from a high school official must confirm this status (or an indication on the H.S. transcript can suffice as documentation as well). Documentation may be faxed to the Office of Financial Aid at 662-915-1164.

Mississippi All-Star Scholarship

  • Award Amount: $4,000 ($1,000 / year)
  • Eligibility: Entering freshmen from Mississippi who have been selected as one of the top 20 All-Star Scholarships by the Mississippi Economic Council.

  • Award Amount: $6,000 ($1,500 / year)
  • Eligibility: Entering freshmen who served in the top elected position in their high school as president of the entire Student Body (or Student Council).

Chinese Language Flagship Scholarships

  • Award Amount: Up to $24,000 for summer study and capstone year in China
  • Eligibility: Entering freshmen with strong academic records who demonstrate a commitment to achieve superior proficiency in Mandarin Chinese (most students selected for the Flagship Program will begin with eight weeks of intensive Chinese study in June prior to freshman year, will spend 9 weeks of study in China in summer following their freshman year, may study in China again in the summer following their sophomore year, will study at Nanjing University in fall semester of their senior year, and will complete a full-time internship in China in spring of their senior year). German Intensive Summer Program Scholarships

  • Award Amount: 2.5 hour tuition scholarship for entering freshmen who join JumpStart, and up to $2,000 for summer study in Germany.
  • Eligibility: Entering freshmen who intend to minor or major in German (current UM students will also be considered). Most students will begin with four weeks of intensive German study in July prior to freshman year and will spend 4 weeks of study in Germany in the summer following their freshman year. Prior German language experience is not required, but those with up to two years of high school German may also apply.

Arabic Language Program Scholarships

  • Award Amount: 2.5 hour tuition scholarship for each of two summer sessions for entering freshmen who join JumpStart, and up to $2,500 for each of their freshman, sophomore, and junior summers
  • Eligibility: Entering freshmen with strong academic records who demonstrate a commitment to achieve superior proficiency in Arabic (current UM students will also be considered). Most students selected for the program will begin with eight weeks of intensive Arabic study in June prior to freshman year, and will spend either nine weeks of study in the ALIF Institute in Fez, Morocco, or eight weeks of study in at Yarmouk University in Irbid, Jordan in their sophomore and junior summers. Prior Arabic language experience is not required, but those who have it are also encouraged to apply.

Military Service Non-Resident Scholarship

  • Award Amount: Full Non-Resident Fee
  • Eligibility: Incoming undergraduates (first-time students or transfers) who have been engaged in and honorably discharged from active duty, for other than training purposes,  in the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, or Coast Guard.

Academic Common Market (ACM) Scholarship

  • Program Description: The Academic Common Market (ACM) is a cooperative agreement allowing residents of a participating state to pursue academic degree programs not offered in their home states without having to pay out-of-state tuition charges. The 16 participating states include AL, AR, DE, FL, GA, KY, LA, MD, MS, OK, SC, TN, TX, VA and WV.
  • Award Amount: Participation in ACM at Ole Miss allows qualified students to receive a scholarship that covers the non-resident fee in full. As a result, participants pay the in-state tuition only, similar to MS residents.  (Please note that this award cannot be combined with any other award that specifically pays for the non-resident fee.)
  • Eligibility: Non-resident students from a state participating in ACM.  Must major in one of the following degree programs:  Bachelor of Science in Forensic Chemistry OR Bachelor of Science in Geological Engineering.  Eligibility for programs offered by The University of Mississippi is determined by the state in which the student resides.  All states and/or degree programs within ACM are not necessarily approved at the undergraduate level at The University of Mississippi.  Students should use the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) website to determine whether they will be eligible for ACM.
