Issues for Students or Parents Who Filed Amended Tax Returns

After your 2018-19 FAFSA processed, and based on the successful use of the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to transfer student and/or parent tax data, it was determined by the IRS that you and/or your parent filed an amended 2016 tax return. The Financial Aid Office must now review your FAFSA data to ensure that correct student and parent tax and income information was used to determine your eligibility for federal financial aid.

NOTE:  If you successfully used the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to transfer student and parent tax and income data to your 2018-19 FAFSA, this information was original tax and income information, not the amended information. Also, you or your parents are not able to view or change any financial information on your FASFA that was part of the IRS Data Retrieval Tool transfer; this must be done by a financial aid administrator.

Based on our review of certain student and parent financial data on your FAFSA, we may ask you or your parent(s) for additional information or documentation as needed.  This may result in potential corrections to your 2018-19 FAFSA, and possibly any tax documents submitted for review.  Once we complete our review of student and parent financial information on your FAFSA, please be aware that the Office of Financial Aid may need to adjust your financial aid package resulting in possible paybacks of awarded federal or need-based aid.  For information, please contact the Office of Financial Aid at 1-800-891-4596 or email faverify@olemiss.edu.
