Terms and Conditions for the
National Guard Tuition Scholarship

Ole Miss is pleased to offer the National Guard Tuition Scholarship to students who are members of the Mississippi Air National Guard and Mississippi Army National Guard who are eligible to receive SEAP (State Educational Assistance Program) or FTA (Federal Tuition Assistance).

This scholarship ensures students have enough scholarship and grant funds to cover their tuition each term. (Please note that the Capital Improvements Fee and Activity Fee are included in this benefit. However, online fees, individual course fees, and any Non-Resident Fee that is charged the student are not covered.)

This is a “gap filler” award meaning the Office of Financial Aid will calculate the amount by subtracting the student’s scholarships and grants from the amount of tuition. Awards that are counted in the calculation include all federal, state, institutional, and private scholarships and grants awarded to you (including Federal Pell Grant and/or State of Mississippi grants such as MTAG, MESG, or HELP). Army Incentive Scholarships awarded through the Ole Miss Army ROTC Department will be excluded from this calculation.

If additional scholarships or grants are awarded during the aid year, the amount of this scholarship will be reduced.

Other eligibility requirements:

  • Remain in good standing with the Mississippi National Guard
  • Apply for SEAP and/or FTA each semester by the appropriate deadlines.
  • Full-time enrollment of at least 12 hours each semester is required.
  • Independent Study classes (also known as correspondence courses or iStudy) can only be used to count towards the full-time enrollment requirement if they are semester-based – not Flex courses. In addition, the scholarship amount may be reduced if students are enrolled in iStudy classes ONLY that term.
  • Eligibility ceases once a bachelor’s degree is obtained or the student begins a Professional/Graduate program.
  • Eligibility for future years is conditional upon you maintaining at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale on all course work attempted at The University of Mississippi only (not transfer grades).
  • Renewal eligibility will be determined at the end of each semester.
  • A FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) must be submitted with all eligibility requirements complete, prior to the start of the semester when scholarship eligibility is being considered. It is recommended that FAFSAs be submitted at least 60 days prior to enrollment.
  • Mississippi residents should also submit the Mississippi Aid Application prior to the start of the semester when scholarship eligibility is being considered.
  • If you withdraw from the University within the 100% institutional refund period (the first 10 days of classes), any scholarship that has already credited to your bursar account must be repaid in full.
