Terms and Conditions for the
Ole Miss Opportunity Scholarship

  • You must be an entering freshman to receive this award.
  • Students who transfer to the University Medical Center will not be eligible to continue on this scholarship.
  • This scholarship is payable in equal installments between fall and spring semester.
  • You must live in University-owned housing during your freshman year (fall/spring semesters) to qualify for this award.
  • In subsequent years, you must live in University-owned housing to receive FULL benefits. Student Housing will work with you to secure placement. If you choose to reside off-campus, the Ole Miss Opportunity Scholarship will be significantly reduced. In that case, the total amount of grants and scholarships you can receive from all sources will be capped at the amount of base tuition only.
  • You are strongly encouraged to participate in and complete the FASTrack Cohort Program during your freshman year (fall/spring semesters) at The University of Mississippi. You have priority admission but must complete a short application available online at: www.olemiss.edu/fastrack.
      • All participants in FASTrack will join small, supportive groups of twenty students and enroll in three courses each semester in common. These courses satisfy the University core requirements. Students will take one or two additional “non-FASTrack” courses to maintain full-time schedules.
      • Students must enroll and complete the following courses during the Fall semester: Writ 101 – First-Year Writing I, History 101 – Europe to 1648, EDHE 105 – Freshman Year Experience (Students will be placed in FASTrack sections prior to their summer orientation session. Any exceptions to the above requirements must be approved by the FASTrack director.)
      • Students must enroll in and complete the following courses during the Spring semester: Writ 102 – First- Year Writing II, History 102 – Europe since 1648, BISC 102 – Inquiry into Life: Human Biology (Any exceptions to the above course requirements will be made by the FASTrack director).

  • Enrollment in EDHE 105 – Freshman Year Experience is required during your first semester and EDHE 106 – Advancing the First-Year Experience during your second semester is required. This requirement can be met through participation in FASTrack (see above).
  • Full-time enrollment of at least 12 hours each semester is required.
  • Enrollment in Independent Study (correspondence) courses will not count in the full-time enrollment calculation.
  • The amount of the Ole Miss Opportunity award may be reduced if the student’s financial need changes and/or if the student receives subsequent, additional gift aid.
  • Eligibility for future years is conditional upon your maintaining at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale on all course work attempted at The University of Mississippi only (not transfer grades).
  • Maximum eligibility is limited to eight consecutive regular semesters (Fall and Spring only). This scholarship will not pay for winter intersession, summer sessions, or any mini-terms.
  • Eligibility ceases once a bachelor’s degree is received.
  • Renewal eligibility for subsequent years will be determined at the end of each Spring semester. Warning notices may be issued if your GPA goes below the 2.0 mark at the end of the Fall Semester.
  • Renewal eligibility is conditional upon the renewal of the FAFSA by March 1st and continued demonstration of financial need is required. The FAFSA must be complete by March 15th.
  • If you withdraw from the University within the 100% institutional refund period (the first 10 days of classes), any scholarship that has already credited to your bursar account must be repaid in full.
  • If you withdraw from the university and attend another college, you will forfeit your scholarship unless prior arrangements have been made with the University of Mississippi, Office of Financial Aid.
  • This scholarship in combination with all other financial aid and resources may not exceed your estimated cost of attendance. If it exceeds this cost, it will be subject to reduction.
  • Students who choose to participate in Study Abroad will have their Ole Miss Opportunity award calculated as a student residing off campus and your award will be significantly reduces. The total amount of grants and scholarships received from all sources will be capped at the amount of base tuition only.
