Work-Study positions usually average 8-12 hours per week and pay $9.00 or $10.00 per hour, per that department’s discretion. Students who participate in the Family Literacy Program are paid $12 per hour and work an average of 12 hours per week (Family Literacy placements are NOT available in summer).

If you are interested in one of the positions listed below, please contact the supervisor for more information regarding the interview and hiring process. If you are hired, please request the Federal Work-Study Placement Sheet from the Office of Financial Aid (257 Martindale-Cole Student Services Center) and complete this form with your supervisor before returning it back to our office. Please note, if this is your first time to work on campus, you will also need to complete the onboarding process which is made available through the Human Resources/Student Employment Office. Position Family Literacy Tutor
Job Qualifications Applicants must: 1) Be in good standing at Ole Miss and have a current FAFSA on file. 2) Have a minimum GPA of 2.5 (and maintain a 2.5 GPA to remain in the program). 3) Be willing to work around 10 hours per week and commit to working 3-4 hour blocks of time. 4) Have reliable transportation (it is preferred that students have their own automobiles). 5) Be willing to undergo a criminal background check. Please note: Education and/or Math majors are preferable, but applicants from any major will be considered.
Job Responsibilities Serve the local community by tutoring students in grades K- 9th in reading and mathematics. Interested applicants must complete an application form which can be obtained at the front desk in the Office of Financial Aid (257 Martindale Student Services Center) and undergo an interview process.

Job Responsibilities Job responsibilities are to care for fish which includes feeding and spawning the fish and maintaining healthy living environments for the fish (cleaning tanks, changing filters, checking ammonia and pH, etc). Does require some weekend work. Other laboratory tasks include making buffers and media. The opportunity for conducting more detailed experiments may arise.

Position Research Assistant
Job Qualifications Students should have an attention to detail and a desire to learn – no previous experience with Drosophila genetics required.
Job Purpose Support Research
Job Responsibilities This student will work in a Drosophila research lab investigating molecular and neural mechanisms of behavior. The student will help maintain laboratory stocks, help graduate students with fruit fly behavioral experiments, input data into spreadsheets, and help with the general laboratory maintenance.

Position Associate Assistant
Job Qualifications Ability to file, have computer skills, communicate with public, understand sanitizing, material check-in/out system, and laminating procedures.
Job Purpose Assistant Program Manager/R&R Associate
Job Responsibilities Help keep resource materials organized, checked in/out, and sanitized. Work with parents, teachers, staff, community personnel and/or others who come to the resource and referral center. Close down resource and referral center Thursday evenings (6:30 pm closure) and one Friday evening a month (5:00 pm closure). Help prepare, organize, and set up for trainings, community events, and special events held through the resource and referral center. Other responsibilities as needed.

Position Lab Assistant
Job Qualifications This position does not require prior laboratory experience, but would be most useful to a student considering a career in a science and technology field. Basic laboratory safely is required and the student will learn those skills at the start of the position through the University’s safety courses. My lab does not include radioactive samples or equipment, nor do we work with pathogens.
Job Purpose Lab set-up, maintaining environmental bacterial and fungal cultures, assisting with other lab-related duties/projects .
Job Responsibilities Responsibilities will include general assistance with laboratory set-up for the Microbial Interactions in Sustainability and Astrobiology Lab (MISA) Duties include washing glassware, help with organizing the lab, establishing safe protocols for lab personnel, and ordering supplies. Learning to maintain microbial cultures will be a part of this job, and student interested in microbiology in any field, or the use of microbes in creating sustainable systems for Earth, Moon, and Mars, would be ideal.

Position Student Worker
Job Qualifications Ability to work 15-20 hours a week (preferably with a block of time during lunch time). Must have good customer service skills and computer skills. Ability to work independently.
