Terms and Conditions for the
Ole Miss 8 Scholarship

  • You must be an entering freshman to receive this award.
  • The Ole Miss 8 Scholarship encourages high touch mentoring relationships. Therefore, students who transfer to the University Medical Center will be reviewed for eligibility on a case by case basis.
  • This scholarship is payable in equal installments between Fall and Spring semester.
  • The Ole Miss 8 Scholarship amount is based on the costs below, after subtracting all federal and state grants awarded to you.  It will fill the gap in funding and cover:
    • Fall and Spring semester base tuition rates for a full-time Mississippi resident student (up to 19 hours each term). The additional tuition charge for pharmacy majors is not included.
    • University-provided housing up to the double occupancy rate.
    • Meals through the University, equivalent to the cost of the “Rebel Unlimited Plus 1” meal plan for Fall and Spring, plus $300 flex (food) funds each semester.
  • You must live in University-owned housing during your freshman year (Fall/Spring semesters) to qualify for this award.
  • If you choose to reside off-campus in subsequent years, the Ole Miss 8 Scholarship will provide a housing stipend commensurate with the cost of double occupancy in University-provided housing, base tuition, and a meal plan.
  • Full-time enrollment of at least 12 hours each semester is required.
  • Independent Study classes (also known as correspondence courses or iStudy) can only be used to count towards the full-time enrollment requirement if they are semester-based – not Flex courses. In addition, the scholarship amount may be reduced if students are enrolled in iStudy classes ONLY that term.
  • The amount of the Ole Miss 8 Scholarship may be reduced if the student’s financial need changes and/or if the student receives subsequent, additional gift aid.
  • Eligibility for future years is conditional upon your maintaining at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale on all course work attempted at The University of Mississippi only (not transfer grades).
  • Maximum eligibility is limited to eight consecutive regular semesters (Fall and Spring only). This scholarship will not pay for winter intersession, summer sessions, or any mini-terms.
  • Eligibility ceases once a bachelor’s degree is obtained or the student begins a Professional/Graduate program.
  • Renewal eligibility for subsequent years will be determined at the end of each Spring semester. Warning notices may be issued if your GPA goes below the 2.0 mark at the end of the Fall Semester.
  • If you withdraw from the University within the 100% institutional refund period (the first 10 days of classes), any scholarship that has already credited to your bursar account must be repaid in full.
  • If you withdraw from the university and attend another college, you will forfeit your scholarship unless prior arrangements have been made with the University of Mississippi, Office of Financial Aid.
  • This scholarship in combination with all other financial aid and resources may not exceed your estimated cost of attendance. If it exceeds this cost, it will be subject to reduction.
  • Students who choose to participate in a UM Study Abroad during Fall, Winter, or Spring will have their Ole Miss 8 award calculated on a case by case basis. The total amount of grants and scholarships received from all sources will be factored into consideration of the total Ole Miss 8 Award for any semester in which the student studies abroad.
